Designed as a place for the "cool" businessperson the hotel occupies a 1952 12-story tower clad in Carrara marble. As the hotel likes to put it, this is a "Oil Company's Decadent Headquarters." The corporate look of the 1950s has been retained, complete with a 15-zone clock and polished aluminium accents. The decor is anything but standard, possessing theatrical and exhibitionistic qualities that appeal to the clientele.
The original columns are encased in mirrored glass, and the 125-foot-long pink sofa in the lobby lounge features raised sections for guests who wish to display themselves. Guests can enjoy billiards or unwind with a nightly DJ. The most recent addition is the eccentric glass-fronted Rudy's Barber Shop, which faces the reception area. Here, hip-hop hairstylists trim bangs while chart-topping artists receive their keys to their rooms.
With yolk yellow floors and egg-shaped pendant lighting, the 24-hour restaurant resembles the inside of an egg carton. Guests receive a complimentary pass to the rooftop bar and pool, bypassing the line of outsiders lining up at the entrance pleading to be admitted to the top-floor party.
